Chanticleer Garden - "The Ruins" in Wayne, PA
The project includes landscape architectural and engineering design of a garden in the ruins. Project considerations include integration of the 2-acre project site within an existing public garden, formulation of a design approach to applying the ruin concept at an existing stone residence, landscape design, and construction coordination. The project is unique in that it reconsiders residential space - turning a house inside out to create garden spaces which interpret its previous function. Water features, a paved carpet, and exposed timber columns and beams are specialty design elements within ruin garden walls.
Martin Luther King High School in Philadelphia, PA
The Martin Luther King High School Master Plan was the first project in a sweeping program by the School District of Philadelphia called the “Campus Parks Initiative.” The program proposed turning the exterior of Philadelphia Public Schools to more park-like settings to enhance the school experience, provide site elements that support the curriculum, and enable an interaction with the community. The Master Plan proposed a number of improvements which included an entry pavilion and arcade, an amphitheater, a wall of fame, signage improvements, an ecology study area, a Mathematics and Science Garden, Hydraulic pools and steps, supplemental landscape planting, and a horticultural garden. Other improvements that were proposed which are less aesthetic in nature, but just as important, such as a proposed improvement to the pedestrian circulation system, development of overflow parking areas, drainage interceptor swales, gymnasium entry plaza, as well as a variety of improvements to the vehicular circulation and parking facilities. Subsequent to preparation of the Master Plan, Advanced GeoServices staff prepared design and construction documents for the first phase of the Master Plan. The first phase included construction of the Arrival Gazebo and Covered Walkway, Amphitheater, Library Garden, and new pedestrian walkways.
Westtown School Athletic Facilities in Westtown Township, PA
Advanced GeoServices staff and Westtown School worked together to revitalize the athletic facilities situated on the 600 acre campus. Athletic facilities include a baseball field, lacrosse field, softball field and six new tennis courts. Advanced GeoServices staff designed 6 new tennis courts adjacent to the existing tennis facility. The new courts were designed to have the same materials and aesthetic as the existing courts. We also designed two multi-purpose fields that could accommodate baseball, softball, and lacrosse. The design included specifying the field soil and under drainage, infield soil selection, and the design of dugouts, backstops, and a scoreboard. The project also required design of a parking lot adjacent to the fields. Stormwater management for the facility included utilization of a bio-swale and an infiltration pond to reduce the runoff from the site as well as improving water quality.
HMS School in Philadelphia, PA
The project consisted of the design of a new bus drop off to accommodate disabled children in wheel chairs arriving for school as well as maintaining and enhancing the existing recreation features. The design provided an area for buses to drop off and pick up the wheelchair-bound children who attend the school under the protection of a covered walkway. The bus circulation to the site was greatly improved by the new configuration. Advanced GeoServices staff provided automatic gates to match the existing wrought iron fence to close off the yard to vehicles after the arrival and departure times for the buses. This allowed the yard to be used for recreation purposes. Advanced GeoServices staff incorporated the existing wheelchair practice track into the design of the yard. Advanced GeoServices staff enhanced the track by adding wooden bridges over the infiltration beds (configured to look like dry bed streams), added a planted trellis, relocated the existing swings, added ornamental lighting fixtures with banners, and added flowering plants. The design also added parking for the school staff.
FDR Park in Philadelphia, PA
The City of Philadelphia Capital Program Office and the Fairmount Park Commission wanted to renovate and improve the infrastructure for the FDR Maintenance Facility located within FDR Park, Philadelphia, PA. Advanced GeoServices provided assessment, civil engineering and landscape architecture services to the City of Philadelphia Capital Program Office and the Fairmount Park Commission for the renovation and infrastructure improvements to FDR Maintenance Facility located within FDR Park. Working in partnership with CDA&I Architecture, Advanced GeoServices completed a site analysis and utility investigation report with recommendations and priorities established based on the project program. Project objectives included the development of new public restroom facilities; improvements to the building, courtyard and service areas; new walkways; and improvements to paving, drainage and landscape. Advanced GeoServices utilized video analysis of the storm lines to assess their viability and to determine the need for replacement. We helped improve water quality with the creation of a custom-designed Best Management Practices forebay to filter stormwater prior to discharge into the adjacent pond. All site improvements were designed to meet ADA requirements.
