Utility Industry - Ash Basin Closure
Advanced GeoServices has been providing facility support engineering and remediation services to our electrical power industry clients for 20 years. Our services have spanned the full breath of our engineering services from small geotechnical investigations for tank foundations to the closure of 100+ acre coal ash basins. Advanced GeoServices has become an integral part of our client’s teams. We have provided compliance support such as air permitting and Right-To-Know reporting, development of SPCC, PPC, FRP and SPR plans and training, emergency spill response oversight and closure, secondary containment designs and dam assessments. Advanced GeoServices combined civil, environmental and geotechnical engineering services have resulted in a specialty service for ash basin closures. Advanced GeoServices has worked on the closure of multiple basins both the design engineer and a turn-key service provider. Ash basin closures provide unique issues related to de-watering, dam stability, material handling, alternative final covers, groundwater impacts, settlement, and storm water management during and post-closure. Advanced GeoServices has also assisted our pipeline clients with wetlands mapping, stream crossing permits, erosion and sediment control plans and permits, and right-of-way maintenance.
Metals Industry - Legacy Services & Facility Support
Legacy Services - Advanced GeoServices engineering group has supported primary metals, secondary metals and finished products metals clients throughout our history with remediation and facility support. Most primary and secondary metals facilities have very long and complex histories that are not always apparent if the facility is no longer present. Advanced GeoServices has performed extensive historical research studies to assist our clients with understanding the potential for alternative sources of metals impacts in the environment surrounding the former facilities. These studies have identified pesticide use, foundries, paint and historic fill as significant sources of on-site metals. Advanced GeoServices has extensive experience across the country with providing solutions to on-site and off-site soil and indoor house dust contamination in residential properties due to air borne emissions. This experience allows us to provide very unique site-specific remediation solutions. For example, Advanced GeoServices negotiated a limited near shore sediment removal remedy to prevent swimmer exposure and natural deposition capping of the deeper sediments within a lake.
Facility Support - Advanced GeoServices has also provided a wide variety of engineering support services to active metals facilities. These have included geotechnical, storm water, secondary containment, and civil engineering, spill response plans, compliance support and NPDES permitting. We assisted a client with the relocation of its waste water discharge line to obtain a higher effluent limit due to the change to a larger receiving water body. Advanced GeoServices recently completed a comprehensive EH&S and best practices audit for a multiple facility smelting client to assist them with achieving uniform operating practices.
Manufacturing Industry - Compliance
Advanced GeoServices’ site remediation and compliance experience covers the vast range of services needed by manufacturing plants to maintain compliance with the latest USEPA or state agency requirements and achieve your business goals. Advanced GeoServices approaches compliance as a cost avoidance strategy that can minimize worker’s compensation claims, environmental impacts due to accidental releases and prevent revenue loss due to business disruption. Compliance-related services include EH&S compliance audits, post-audit strategic planning, indoor air quality monitoring, Tier 2 and SARA Title 3 reporting, SPCC Plan updates, air and storm water permitting, routine groundwater monitoring, monthly DMR sampling and reporting. Advanced GeoServices compliance staff will help you understand the meaning of the audit results and solution options. In certain situations, Advanced GeoServices has been able to identify regulatory exemptions that eliminated deficiencies identified in an audit, thus saving our clients significant time, cost and effort.
Chemical Industry - Engineering & Procurement Support
Advanced GeoServices has serviced several specialty chemical companies for many years. Our engineers have provided Plant Engineers with operational support for UST/ASTs, lagoon design and closure, process and conveyance piping design, geotechnical engineering, waste water treatment, NPDES permitting and remediation. In addition, Advanced GeoServices has created a web-based procurement management service to assist our clients with soliciting, reviewing and managing construction contracts. Advanced GeoServices can also provide Owner representation during construction to allow you to focus on core business issues. Our web-based procurement management service allows client easy access to key project documents anywhere they travel. The portability of the service provides our clients the power to make informed, cost-saving and timely decisions during a construction project even when they are half way around the world.
Food & Beverage Industry - Ozone Technologies
Since ozone was generally recognized-as-safe (GRAS) for food application in 1997, interest in developing ozone applications in the food industry has increased. Ozone can be applied directly as a gas or dissolved in water and then applied. In addition to disinfection of foods, ozone applications include extending shelf life for fruits, vegetables and fish. It can be used as a grain fumigant for insect and fungi control in storage with no detrimental effect on grain quality. Advanced GeoServices engineers can assist our clients with evaluating the benefits of incorporating ozone into the food processing systems.
Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) and Personal Care Products (PCPs), are classes of emerging contaminants that include many commonly used medicinal, cosmetic, and personal hygiene products. These compounds have been detected at levels in the environment, which may pose a potential impact to human health and the environment. These compounds can be categorized into:
• Acute and chronic toxic substances
• Endocrine Disrupting Compounds (EDCs)
• Antibiotic resistance proliferators
Advanced GeoServices has assisted pharmaceutical companies for many years to establish programs for identification and assessment of compound discharges and impacts to the environment. Advanced GeoServices works in partnership with commercial and academic analytical laboratories that pioneer new and novel analytical detection methods for compounds of emerging concern. We have successfully researched, tested, designed, and installed various processes to remove APIs and PCPs from wastewater using at source and end-of-pipe treatment systems. Advanced GeoServices successfully designed and constructed the first treatment system in the world specifically designed to remove endocrine disrupting APIs. Additionally, we have implemented at-source treatment systems to benefit our clients by saving them hundreds of thousands of dollars per year in deferred off-site disposal and liability costs.
