Advanced GeoServices conducts environmental, health and safety (EH&S) compliance audits and expanded environmental assessments at facilities to identify issues of concern and improve manufacturing processes, consistent with best industry practices. Advanced GeoServices recently completed such an audit to assist a venture capital firm and corporate management team identify best practice gaps and develop an action plan and schedule to improve the environmental management systems and practices. Advanced GeoServices also performs preview sale environmental assessments for potential Sellers to help them identify and eliminate potential uncertainties associated with historic environmental releases that can delay a real estate transaction.
The regulated community is often faced with the need to obtain permits for the renewal, modifications or expansion of their facilities. The need for and type of permits can be complex and require significant strategic planning. Some permits can require significant lead time for approval and sometimes can be avoided entirely based on project sequencing and design decisions. Advanced GeoServices’ environmental engineers have been involved with a broad range of permitting projects, including air permitting, erosion and sediment permits for expansions and repair work, storm water and industrial discharge NPDES permits, and RCRA Part B renewals. Advanced GeoServices can provide single task permitting services or comprehensive permitting program management services. For example, Advanced GeoServices has been providing engineering services for the development of various new and renewal permits at multiple facilities for 20 years.
Advanced GeoServices combined environmental, geotechnical and civil engineering capabilities provides Plant Managers and Plant Engineers with single-provider services for important issues such as storm water management planning, treatment, design upgrades and installation. Many facilities now require NPDES storm water permits that may result in the need for storage tanks, pervious covers for infiltration and other best management practices (BMPs). Advanced GeoServices recently provided design, permitting and field engineering services for a storm water infrastructure replacement project. The entire project was performed under portable enclosures to control dust emissions from lead impacted soils. In another storm water project, Advanced GeoServices provided design and field engineering services for the installation of two underground concrete storage tanks to replace two sedimentation basins at an operating manufacturing plant to meet the requirement of the Supplemental Environmental Project agreed to under a Consent Order.
Water Supply Evaluations
Water is often the life blood of many manufacturing processes. As such, the prudent use of it can save facilities significant financial resources. Advanced GeoServices’ engineers and geologists have helped different types of facilities evaluate their current water usage needs and develop strategies to meet future demands. Advanced GeoServices recently assisted a client with developing a strategy to maximize the amount of groundwater that could be withdrawn on-site without negatively impacting the on-site contaminated groundwater plume on another portion of the property. The analysis included groundwater modeling of various extraction scenarios for new and existing wells and providing engineering cost opinions. Advanced GeoServices has also provided water balance studies to help facilities reduce costs by finding opportunities to reuse water at an acceptable return on investment.
Spill Planning & Response
Accidents happen and so do spills. Planning and training are the key elements of minimizing environmental impacts when a spill does occur. The number and type of spill plan(s) required depends on your industry and the size of your operations. Advanced GeoServices has written and performed training for Spill Prevention Containment and Control (SPCC) Plans, Preparedness, Prevention and Contingency (PPC) Plans, Facility Response Plans (FRP) and Spill Prevention and Response (SPR) Plans for heavy industry, light industry, rail road facilities, pipelines and storage facilities. Advanced GeoServices will customize the required plans and training to our client’s needs to address facilities with just single aboveground ground storage tank to GIS integrated emergency and spill response plans with field verified, scaled plans that provide emergency responder with critical and accurate infrastructure information.
Facility Infrastructure Upgrades
Industrial and commercial facilities are frequently expanding or undergoing renovations to meet the changing needs of their clients and regulations. Advanced GeoServices professional engineers provide a broad range of services to meet these needs. Typical services may include the upgrading of a hazardous waste secondary containment system, geotechnical investigations for new buildings or equipment pad foundations, or pavement and retaining wall designs to extend parking lots and driveways. Advanced GeoServices has worked with numerous Plant Managers and Plant Engineers to develop engineering plans and sequence work activities to minimize plant disruptions while upgrades are implemented.
