AGC’s Dan Wright Discusses Stormwater with Area Robotics Team to Help Them Win FIRST LEGO League Challenge

Dan Wright and Downingtown Area Robotics Team 17424

Dan Wright and Downingtown Area Robotics Team 17424

After school in late September, AGC’s Dan Wright had a discussion with the Downingtown Area Robotics Team 17424 of the FIRST LEGO League to help them win the next FIRST LEGO League Challenge.  The annual Challenge requires each competing team to program a robot that navigates a themed playing field that the team designs which provides a solution to a STEM problem.   Team 17424 chose as their theme “Stormwater management - Ways to improve”.  Dan, who has worked on countless stormwater projects of varying sizes and complexity, took some time to share his knowledge of stormwater with the team.  They discussed how it impacts their community and Dan answered their questions.

We are rooting for Team 17424 to win the FIRST LEGO League Challenge!  We are extremely proud of their curiosity, the initiative they demonstrate, their preparedness, their desire to learn about issues impacting them, and their willingness to work as a team to solve an issue.

AGC is Proud to Be a Part of Villanova University’s Residential Complex Team

Congratulations to Villanova University and the team that built The Commons, a four-story residential complex of six residence halls that will house over 1,000 upperclassmen starting this fall.  Advanced GeoServices is proud to be part of the project team, including famed architectural firm, Robert A.M. Stern; Voith & Mactavish Architects; and Macintosh Engineering. This beautiful complex incorporates the predominant collegiate gothic-style with modern elements.  According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, “…Villanova’s four-story complex is connected to the Catholic university’s main campus on the other side of Lancaster Avenue by a pedestrian bridge, built in the same collegiate gothic style, with four gold-colored crosses, two on each end, atop stone pillars.”

AGC Assists Client in Achieving Wildlife at Work Certification

Research Center

AGC and Ashland LLC combined conservation and corporate sustainability goals with environmental remediation efforts at the Ashland Research Center in Wilmington, Delaware by participating in the Wildlife at Work program through the Wildlife Habitat Council (www.wildlifehc.org).  The Wildlife Habitat Council is nationally recognized and promotes habitat conservation and management on corporate lands.

Research Center bird box

The Research Center has participated in the Wildlife at Work program from 2014 to the present.  The initial conservation project restored 2.3 acres of grassland habitat and provided nesting sites for birds and ducks at and around a closed landfill.  Since restoration of the landfill and surrounding area, significant improvements have occurred in vegetation, and avian and mammalian species.  Commonly seen avian species include ground-nesting birds (i.e. Song Sparrow, Red-winged Blackbird and Indigo Bunting), box-nesting birds (i.e. House Wren, Carolina Wren, Carolina Chickadee and Eastern Bluebird), ducks, and bald eagles, as well as other native wildlife. Surveys have also observed several avian species included in Delaware’s Wildlife Species of Greatest Conservation Need list including Warbling Vireo, Bank Swallow, and Chimney Swift.  Public engagement occurs via announcements by Wilmington and Western Railroad during their train tours near the grassland habitat.  Advanced GeoServices and Ashland are continuing to implement the program and endeavor for continued success with supporting biodiversity and avian habitat.

AGC Assists Client with Nearly Doubling Size of Campus

For the past five years our client, SEI Investments, has been hiring almost 200 people a year, which means that this growing company has almost outgrown their campus in Oaks, PA.  To remedy this situation, they will nearly double the size of their current campus by developing 90 acres of land and adding around 425,000-square-feet in new buildings over the next several years.

AGC Assists Client with Nearly Doubling Size of Campus

AGC has been assisting with the design of this expansion of this unique site, referred to as the "Idea Farm".  According to Dennis J. McGonigle, chief financial officer, from an article in the Philadelphia Business Journal, “It’s not a place for power point presentations but a place to talk, think, create and move the company forward”.

To design this innovative campus, AGC provided geotechnical engineering, civil engineering/site design, and landscape architecture services.  Site elements such as buildings, parking, pedestrian circulation, grading, stormwater management, and vegetation work in harmony to create a landscape that is it aesthetically pleasing and functional. We employed stormwater BMPs, along with renovating and re-incorporating the existing pond to eliminate the need for detention basins.  The project won the Montgomery County Planning Commission 1997 Outstanding Site Design Award.

AGC Celebrates 25 Years

Advanced GeoServices Corp celebrates 25 years in business

This month, Advanced GeoServices Corp. (AGC) will proudly celebrate our 25th year anniversary.  We have come a long way since our humble beginnings in 1992, growing from a staff of six, providing environmental and geotechnical engineering services, to a staff of over 60 people and a diverse service offering, having added Civil/Site Design Engineering, Municipal Engineering, Water and Wastewater Engineering, and Landscape Architecture services.  We expanded our geographic footprint beyond West Chester, PA with offices in Lancaster, PA; Fair Lawn, NJ; Neptune, NJ; and Cherry Hill, NJ.

Along the way, we acquired several engineering consulting companies to better serve our clients.  Through these acquisitions we continued to diversify our services and welcome talented staff to our firm.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our clients for their unwavering support for, and confidence in, Advanced GeoServices.  Without them, we would not be where we are today.  We are especially thankful to the companies who put their trust in a small, unknown, untested company 25 years ago and continue to do so.  They are not only our clients, but now, long-time friends.

We would also like to thank our extremely talented employees who have worked with us over the past 25 years.  Many of them have been with us for over 20 years!  We continually rely on the depth and breadth of their expertise and knowledge to tackle the complex and challenging problems our clients bring us.  We are grateful for their loyalty to us and to our clients.

As we move into our second quarter century, we recognize that the world is rapidly changing and we look forward to the challenges ahead.  As the world changes, we will be needed to design those changes, while continuing to protect the environment around us.  We stand ready!
